Oktoberfest at the Henderson Senior Center or Yikes! Hail!

This past Saturday, the Senior Center held their annual Oktoberfest, and MEL was invited. It was a rare stormy day, however, and so it was a bit of an adventure for us. This is what the sky looked like as we approached our destination:

Suddenly, we found ourselves in the midst of thunder, lightning, wind and rain...

Then, it actually hailed for a little bit. It's hard to see, but if you look at the street beside the truck, there is pea-sized hail there:

The storm eventually passed, and we made it to our destination just fine. These pictures were taken after the storm had passed:

We had a special guest come to visit us, Vicki from the Gibson Library. She was volunteering at the Senior Center that morning. She is known and loved by so many in our community--she has been delivering library materials to the homebound for quite some time now. Thanks for visiting us, Vicki!

We hope that everyone enjoyed Oktoberfest. Turnout was slow early in the morning because of the weather, but it looked as if it was picking up nicely towards the middle of the day. Thanks to everyone who came aboard!

Where's MEL, Part II

Hi to everyone in cyberspace! I hope you all had a good weekend. Mine was good--I got rained on a little--I'm not really used to that, but it was fun! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at Silver Springs Park this afternoon. Hope to see you there!

Also,

Since no one guessed correctly in the Where’s MEL? Contest last week, the outreach team has decided to make it a little easier. Below are 3 photos, taken at the same stop.

Come on—try it! Remember, just email me, MEL, at bookmobile@hdpl.org with your guesses!

If you look carefully, you'll see some good hints!!! Good luck, and have fun!

Treem Elementary

Travels With MEL

Ms. Lisa traveled to Treem Elementary today and spoke to all the 3rd, 4th & 5th graders. Although most had visited a public library only a handful had ever stepped through Mel's door. When school let out Mel was suddenly filled with visiting children and parents. Ms. Kathy stayed very busy at the computer checking out books and registering new patrons. They liked the book selections, DVD's and especially the Playaways! Quite a few picked books, sat on the soft mats in the back and read quietly. Read On Treem!
