Come See Marc Brown With Me!

I'm so excited because this Saturday, we can see author Marc Brown and his sister, the real D. W. from the Arthur stories! They will be at the Henderson Pavillion, 200 S. Green Valley Parkway, right across from the Paseo Verde Library.
They'll open the gates at noon so that you can come visit me, your friendly Bookmobile! You'll be able to get a new library card if you don't already have one, as well as check out great books, DVDs and more!
Print out the flyer and be sure to check out the 2nd page. You can ask Marc Brown a question and get the chance to win an autographed set of Marc Brown's books!
See you there!
Do you remember being a kid? There was always something wonderfully fantastic happening. Some of my favorite memories are from field day. The teachers would set up all kinds of obstacle courses for you to compete with fellow students in; jumping through hula hoops, running through a jump rope maze, or balancing a cotton ball on a plastic spoon. As great as these memories were, they need to stay just as that... memories. I've got a theory that there were kids from school that liked field day a little too much and made a career out of it. They're called road construction workers.
These obstacle lovers want everyday to be field day, and they want everyone to participate. So they set up cones to swerve in and out of, signs to swerve around, and paint (or don't paint) mazes on the pavement to try and figure out. You could say that there's nothing wrong with this, they're just trying to make the world a happier place by giving us all games to play while making mundane drives. Let's face it, how often do you see these sights without actual construction anywhere around... it's all a game!
But I'm saying it doesn't always feel like a game to me. When you're driving a 32 foot bookmobile around town it can be very intensive to go where I'm supposed to go and to not knock over any of those orange cones along the way, but I do it!
My response, "It might not be easy. It might not be as fun as 'catch the water balloon' was in 3rd grade, but I'm ready, and I'll take MEL safely through any obstacle you put in front of me!"
Kids Galore at River Mountain
MEL, Miss Mary and LisaKay had a busy day at River Mountain today, right from the opening bell. It seemed like a few families were waiting for us so they could return books and check out some more. We are getting more and more 'regulars' in MEL's who seem to have MEL's schedule memorized. yay!
The kids area got a good workout, too, with a whole family getting comfy on the floor mats to read books and giggle a lot.
We got another rush after the school bus pulled up. Who would have thought middle-schoolers would choose us over skateboarding (at least for a little while). We're feeling very special!
Fire Safety Training
This morning at the Paseo Verde Library, where MEL is parked, we learned how to properly use a fire extinguisher. There was a metal tub in the parking lot that was used in the demonstration. The instructors would light the fire in the tub, then a library staff member would put it out. This happened over and over (until my truck--thank goodness it's white) was pretty much covered with fire extinguisher powder. Anyway, it was a good refresher course. One thing I got out of this training that I had not really been told before was: Use the extinguisher to safely remove yourself and others from danger--don't think you must put the entire fire out!
We have a fire extinguisher on MEL, just inside the door. And of course, we hope we never have to use it!
Active Day at Silver Springs
Wow - did we have a busy day at Silver Springs today. We had 32 enthusiastic patrons aboard, and we issued both adult and childrens library cards. We love that! The weather was great today, so the A/C got a break and we were able to keep the door open. That lets everybody know how friendly we are!
We also had the Anthem news team on MEL doing a follow up interview for their cable TV show. Miss Kathy did a great job with the interview. She was informative, friendly, welcoming and just overall fab! We will look forward to seeing our very own copy of the news clip after it airs in Anthem.
Cooler Weather
I'm sure that I'm not the only one that's thankfull the weather is cooling down. The bookmobile's poor air conditioner was having trouble keeping up this summer! Soon we'll be able to sit out at a stop with the door propped wide open (I know, you can't see the cool steps go in and out like that, but at least you don't have to try and figure out where the door handle is!)
Yah Fall!
A Picture Of My Friends
I'm happy to have lots of friends! Here's a picture of Amelia, Christa, and Diane Davis choosing chapter books. Outreach Team Member SusieQ waits to check their books out.
Come On In!
Have you seen MEL, the Bookmobile parked around Henderson, but haven't stepped inside yet? Many people have come aboard and said they've seen us, but just didn't know what to expect. Some people have thought we were selling books, and others thought we were just for kids. Others thought we were just for special programs.
Well, it looks like the word is getting out about who we are and what great things we have to offer. Items for all ages: the newest books, DVDs, and 4 week checkout periods--and so much more!
For our schedule, just click on Where's the Bookmobile Today?
Next time you see us, come on in!
Ice Cream Truck

So, here we are, Ms. Lisa K and Ms. Kathy and I, at Silver Springs Park. It's a beautiful day, and we've had several kids visit us so far today. One of them almost gave us her Gibson Elementary School library book, but she remembered not to--just in time! Then, suddenly, I heard some strange music (Ms. Kathy says the name of it is "The Entertainer". She was a kid in the 70s, when it was on the radio!). This music was coming from a truck! Ms. Lisa K says it's the Ice Cream Truck! I hope their air conditioning is good...
My Poem about MEL
Books here and books there
We cart books everywhere.
You can find us at the park.
(But we never stay way after dark).
Give us a call on the phone
Request a book for you alone
Straight to your stop we’ll bring your stuff
So you can read till you’ve had enough.
Happy Times at Annabelle Pines
MEL proved to be as popular as ever at Annabelle Pines this morning. Patrons were ready and waiting as soon as we pulled up. One of MEL's gals saved the day by bringing the books-on-hold that got left - oops! - at home base. Another of MEL's girls was seen sprinting across the parking lot to return some keys that had been left onboard by a patron. Whew! But all ended well and we'll look forward to our next action-packed stop at the Pines.
Where is everybody?
I think a lot of people must have still been on vacation because it was really quiet at our Whitney Ranch stop today. We get lonely when no one stops by to check us out, so please come out and see us soon. Remember it's really "cool" inside the Bookmobile in more ways than one!
