It's Official!
The votes are all in, and MEL's little sister is now affectionately known as Libby, the Library Van. Thank you for your participation in our endeavor to show her how important she is in our library family. And speaking of little sisters--watch for BB, the Bright Beginnings Program's new vehicle. We've been waiting for her arrival for a year or so, and we're very anxious to welcome her. Word is, she'll be ready to come home to us next week. There'll be photos, of course. We'll keep you posted!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Thanksgiving is a time to look at our lives and pick out all those little things that get over looked during our fast paced daily activities and be appreciative of them. However, sometimes I think that we get too wrapped up in Thanksgiving dinners and visits that we forget to participate in this exercise. For this reason I’ve compiled a list of some of the things that I’m thankful for:
1. I’m thankful MEL has comfortable seats to ride in.
2. I’m thankful for all the people that come on board at our stops and ask us how we’re doing that day.
3. I’m thankful when someone says “thank you”.
4. I’m thankful MEL drives nicely and we don’t have to worry about him breaking down on the side of the road.
5. I’m thankful for the beautiful weather we’ve been having.
6. I’m thankful for the beautiful skyline I get to see driving MEL back to the library during a sunset.
7. I’m thankful I have a wonderful family waiting for me when I get home.
8. What are you thankful for?
On a mission at Mission Hills
Wow - MEL was really popular today at the Mission Hills stop. Once the kids got out of school, we were swamped with eager readers. Some folks came on board just to learn about the bookmobile and the other HDPL branches, and some came on board with a mission, specifically looking for great books to keep the kids quiet - um, we mean happy! - during the Thanksgiving break.
Plus, MEL's girls had a special treat: a tired daddy with a beautiful four-month-old baby let us hold his little angel while he perused the shelves, signed up for a new library card and picked out some board books for the bouncin' babe. Yay for early literacy!
The Chicken
So we're at Whitney Ranch the other day and a chicken comes on board MEL and says, "book bok boook book". I picked out a nice book about eggs and gave it to the chicken. He tucked it up under his wing and tromped out the door. A little while later the chicken came back, put the book on the table and said, "book book bok". I found a book about farms and gave that to the chicken, who took it and left. It wasn't long before the chicken came back a third time, set the book down on the table and said, "boook book book". I thought for sure a copy of The Little Red Hen would please this chicken, so I found it and gave it to the chicken. As the chicken is going down the stairs my curiosity took over and I followed him out the door, down the magic steps, across the parking lot, into the Rec Center, and to the edge of the pool. There the chicken gave the book to a little green frog who went, "read-it, read-it, read-it!"
Leadership Henderson Class Visit
Earlier today, the Outreach Team was proud to host tours of MEL, the bookmobile for this year's Leadership Henderson class.
Gayle Hornaday, Library Assistant Director and Michelle Mazzanti, Head of Acquisitions and Bibliographic Services were in the previous class. This year, Joan Vaughn, Head of Reference/Assistant Branch Manager at the Paseo Verde Library is carrying on the tradition of representation by Henderson Libraries in this program.
Thanks for coming aboard, and we hope to see you at one of our stops soon!
Trick or Treat
It's so great to be back on the road again! Halloween day was especially fun. Here's what I saw (with my new and improved eye!):

I had lots of fun--hope you did, too. See you next week!
