Baby, it's cold outside!

Burrrr! The wind was blowing... but the only snow was up in the mountains... sure is pretty to look at. Just so glad I don't have to drive in it. We had a special visitor from the Henderson Home News on MEL this Tuesday at our Mission Hills stop . She had a camera with a HUGE lens on it and took pictures of two of our families while they were picking out books. She said she really enjoyed visiting MEL, she reminisced about having a bookmobile in the town where she grew up. We didn't have a lot of patrons today, I think they were all out shopping! MEL will be relaxing and enjoying the holidays in his special parking spot at the library, but we'll be back on the road in January with a fresh selection of great books. Watch for us and stop by and visit us soon.

Silver Bells at Silver Springs

Did we ever have a rambunctious holiday crowd on the bookmobile today! When the sweet silver-sound of that school bell rang out today, the children ran right for MEL. We're thinking they might have had one too many sugar cookies at school! But of course, we were delighted to hand out our special gifts of reading, learning, movies and fun to all who came aboard. Now, all we need is a few cooperative reindeer to pull our festively decorated sled and we'll be as popular as ole Santy Claus!

MEL's Bells

When I'm driving through the streets of Henderson on these chilly winter days I like to imagine that MEL is an old fashioned sleigh being pulled by a team of horses. [In my imagination] we're dashing through the snow covered hills to our next stop, where we're greeted by happy children and grandparents that can't brave the cold to get to the main library branch. As I drive I merrily sing:

Jingle Bells
I love MEL's
Popular new books
Constantly there's what I want
Whenever I go look!!

BB Pictures!

Here's my new little sister, BB the Bright Beginnings SUV

This is her first full day here with the Henderson Libraries. Later, she'll get "wrapped"--that means she'll get pictures on her like me. I was just plain white when I first came here, too. I remember that people used to think I was the bloodmobile or an xray van, or even an ice cream truck! Then, I got wrapped, and now most everyone can tell what my purpose in life is!

Here are two of my good friends, Ms. Gayle and Ms. Evelyn
(I think they're counting all of BB's fingers and toes, so to speak)

Here's Ms. Evelyn with BB

BB will be working hard soon. Welcome BB!

We had a wonderful day at our Mission Hills stop, several of our "regular" patrons stopped by to see us, that always makes us very happy. We would love for you to be one of our "regulars" too!
Don't forget to get your entries in for our winter reading program we have lots of really neat prizes. What could be better on some of these cool evenings than to curl up with a cup of hot chocolate and a wonderful book!
Oh my gosh, can you believe that sky!
See you soon on the bookmobile,
Susie Q

We Have a winner!!!

This morning we drew the first winning names for our Winter Reading Program. Congratulations to Sam & Kathy!!!!! You can come on board MEL at any of our stops to claim your prize!

BB is Here!

Our new baby, BB, is here! The new Bright Beginnings SUV came home with Outreach staff just this afternoon, and she's a beauty. Plus, she's a hybrid -- a cool vehicle to help battle a warming environment.

BB will carry us to great adventures in Bright Beginnings, HDPL's early literacy program that goes where the need is. She'll be taking us to recreation centers and senior centers and shelters and schools to deliver and maintain small library collections and provide early literacy programs. We just know that little ol' BB will have a great big impact on access to library and literary services for the citizens of Henderson. And MEL's not even jealous - he's a very proud big brother.
