Windy Whitney Ranch!

Wow! Was it ever windy today at the Whitney Ranch Rec. Center!
There's a little plastic stick thing that keeps my door open, but when my door is closed, and if it's windy, it sounds like someone's knocking on the door. It's kind of funny--it made Ms. Amanda and Ms. Kathy keep looking to see who was there!

Curious Kids Visit MEL

Silver Springs was all abuzz yesterday with kids anxious to come aboard and check out MEL. Speaking of check-outs, there weren't too many books checked out because those curious kiddos need library cards. So, parents, when you have minute, please stop by MEL or any of our Henderson branches and sign your children up for a library card. It's free and easy!

Puppeteers!

Today, we had some special people visit us: Jessica and Joshua, and their mom, Kathy! Ms. LisaKay and Ms. Kathy were surprised and pleased to see them here at the Whitney Ranch Rec. Center, since they usually go to other stops. But, they said they were in the neighborhood, saw me, and had to stop by! They like to play with the puppets, as you can see in the picture. Personally, the Cheshire Cat scares me, with his pointy teeth, but the pony is okay.

Hoppin' Stop at Silver Springs

MEL had a great time at Silver Springs today. He loves it when old friends return and new friends discover him. We had lots on new patrons come aboard and sign up for their very first Henderson District Public Library cards. Plus, our old friends are increasingly remembering to bring back their old HDPL bags to fill them with lots of new goodies. We love to recycle!

Pinch Hitters!

It was our pleasure this week to have not one, but two fabulous guest riders aboard MEL! Both of them are from the Henderson Libraries ABS department. ABS is Acquisitons and Bibliographic Services--they're the ones who process, repair, catalog, etc., all of our materials. MEL's friend DAV, the Deliveries and Acquistions Vehicle, along with his driver Mr. Scott, are also a part of ABS. They are very much "behind the scenes" staff, although you might run into them at book signings and sales at special author events. The library's videographer is a librarian from ABS, Mr. Ed. (Maybe someday, he'll ride along, too!)

Here's Kathy and Ed from ABS, waving goodbye to Barb and Ms. Kathy

First was Barb, aka "Shotgun Barb". She worked on Tuesday, at the Whitney Ranch stop. Barb didn't get to see a lot of action, though. She told me, "We need to drum up more business here. Maybe we should have an Outreach Dog or Cat aboard!" Our regulars did come to visit that day. We also had a new young man who didn't have a library card yet, but lives near the Paseo Verde Library and will ask his parents to get him one. That way, next time, he will be able to check out all the cool stuff he saw.

On Wednesday morning, Kathy, aka "the other Kathy F.", rode along to the Horizon Seniors stop. We really put her to work there! :-) Kathy said about the experience, "It was fun--new and different! It was nice to see that the people were pleased, and really appreciated the fact that we were there. We seemed to brighten their day!".

Barb and Kathy, you really brightened our days as well! Thanks for helping out! And thanks to their manager, Michelle, for "loaning them out", too.
