On Tuesday August 4, 2009, The Henderson Police Department will be hosting its annual "National Night Out" event at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water Street. The event starts at 6:00 PM and will end at 8:30 PM.

The Henderson Police Department would like to encourage individuals and groups within the community to "take back the night." National Night Out promotes a safer community by increasing community involvement. When citizens get to know their neighbors, community partners and local police department representatives, everyone benefits. National Night Out educates the community about a variety of issues related to crime prevention and personal security and safety.

This event will feature crime prevention booths and exhibits, local and state organizations, Henderson Police and Fire exhibits, live music from the "Sin City Surfers",
fun for the kids, free Vin etching, and free hot dogs, ice cream, and donuts.

This is a great opportunity to meet others in the community who want to keep Henderson a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.

National Night Out! Whoopee!

Hi, Everyone! I've been enjoying my summer vacation, but I am happy to announce my appearance for the THIRD time at Henderson's National Night Out! We've had lots of fun in the past, and don't expect anything different this time :)

I hear there will be free ICE CREAM given out, along with all kinds of music to listen to, crafts to make, people to meet...come see us!!!

Summer Vacation

Hi Everybody! It's me, MEL, your favorite Bookmobile, and I've got news: I have been on the road regularly since 2006, and I've been told I need to take a vacation. I personally don't think I need a vacation, but everyone is saying I have to go to the RV clinic to have a complete physical, for one thing. And, just like I'm not a "road hog", I also don't want to "hog" all of the attention that my other library friends SO deserve. So.......

Henderson Libraries has opened two new libraries, as you probably already know: the Galleria Library in the Galleria at Sunset Mall and the Green Valley Library!

And guess what? Give up? Okay, I'll tell you: you can still see the Outreach Team, even while I'm on vacation! They all work at the Galleria!! Isn't that the coolest?

Go see them soon, and tell them I sent you :D

New Friend With Us Today!

Hi again! It's your favorite bookmobile, MEL, coming to you from Mission Hills Park! It's a beautiful day, the sun is shining, the police are training...just like always here.

Ms. Tamra and Ms. Kathy and I are happy to have a guest rider with us today, Mr. Juan Renteria! He is one of our newest Henderson Library employees, and guess what??? He used to work on....you're not going to believe this.....but maybe you will......he used to work on a Bookmobile like me!!! In California!!! Can you believe it? He likes to read AND he likes to write, too! I like to write, but I like it when other people read to me...but enough about me, and back to our new friend! His favorite color is "Charger Blue". I haven't been to California...it must be a California color or something. Anyone know? I'm too embarrassed to ask...

But for now, he is one of the many new faces that have joined the Green Valley Library staff. You will find him in the Adult Services area of the newly remodeled, beautiful Green Valley Library!

When you see him, ask him about his library tattoo! It's cool! You've seen all my tattoos: I have a lot of them, such as, "mypubliclibrary.com" and "Bookmobile Does Not Carry Cash", and "READ".

I am always happy to show off to anyone, anytime. I'm so proud of all the parents and children that come to see me, my magic steps, and check out good books!

Digital Bookmobile

Hi everyone!
I just want to let everyone know what is happening.
My friends in Outreach and I have stopped going to the Green Valley Library. Green Valley is open temporary hours for now. To find out their temporary hours, click on Green Valley.
My friends in Outreach are now spending a lot of time over at the Galleria Mall and yes, they are doing more than shopping. Henderson Libraries opened a branch in the mall. A lot of people are happy that a library is in the mall! If you want to know the hours there, click HERE. They have some programs at the Galleria Mall as well, so make sure you stop by the events calender to find out what is happening.
As for me, I am stopping at my usual stops again. If you have forgotten where the stops are, my link is here. My next 2 stops coming up will be at Anthem Hills Park on Monday the 16th and at Black Mountain Recreation Center on Tuesday the 17th. I hope I see you there. Don't forget to wear GREEN on the 17th!

GUESS WHAT?!?

My cousin is visiting from out of town. Her name is Digital Bookmobile, but I call her Digi. Digi will be at the Galleria Mall with all of my friends on Thurday, April 2, 2009 from 10 am to 5 pm. Digi and her friends will show you all the things that you need to know about downloadable books, audiobooks, and much more. Did you know you can download a book or audiobook to your computer? If compatible, you can even put it on your MP3 player. That is so awesome! They will be here rain or shine, so stop on by because you will never know what you may learn and find! Digi is really cool and I hope you get to meet her!

Hi! MEL, your favorite Bookmobile here! How about this great weather? I'm getting Spring Fever!

I had a great day today at the Black Mountain Rec Center stop--the Outreach Team met some new people, and everyone had lots of fun! There was a little boy outside with his mother, and he was crying and crying and crying. It sounded so sad... his mother brought him and his little brother in to get some books and to visit us, and guess what??? He stopped crying! I was glad I could help to make someone happy again!

I'll bet you would get happier, too, if you came to see us!

Shotgun Barb Rides Again!

Fun at Green Valley Library!

Wow! I had such a good day today! First of all, I got to go to the Green Valley Library for the second time this week. Those new (at least new to me!) Green Valley Library customers are so cool! They were so happy to meet us, and they were so impressed at all of the great stuff I carry. One guy was amazed at actually being able to find two Stephenie Meyer books right there on the shelf! He got his new Henderson Library Card and checked both books out immediately!

It's Warm and Toasty on the Bookmobile

But there was plenty of rain. All this talk of snow had me excited, but it didn't show up around us. We had a few people come aboard even with the cold and rain. When we first got to Silver Springs, it was 40 degress outside. Brrr! Everyone was chilly!

Well our next stop is at Mission Hills Park tomorrow at 2pm. We hope to see you there! If not tomorrow, we will not see you until January 5th at Anthem Hills.

Memories at Anthem Hills

Today we were at Anthem Hills and we had quite a few people on the bookmobile, some new and some old. All of our new fans were so excited to meet us and thought it was so awesome that we had all of these books in MEL. I remember when I first saw MEL, I was so excited. All of our old friends were just so glad to see us and to pick up some books to read. Next stop is Black Mountain Rec Center tomorrow, but I will not be there. So, Happy Thanksgiving.

Last Minute "Shoppers"

Whew!

This past week, Ms. Sue and I wondered where everyone was for our first hour and 45 minutes at the Mission Hills stop. It seemed as if there weren't as many kids pouring out of the school across the street as usual, and not as many cars in the parking lot. Even the Henderson and North Las Vegas Police cadets weren't training in the parking lot (you should see them!).

Suddenly, in our last 15 minutes there, 19 people came to get books, comic books, and DVDs! I guess they know we don't like to leave early :-)

Next week, MEL will be in Anthem, at Anthem Hills Park on Monday, 2pm - 4pm, and Black Mountain Rec Center on Tuesday, 2pm- 4pm.

Sorry to all of the MEL visitor’s at Silver Springs. MEL is stuck at home and will get to listen to John McCain today. The doors at the Pavilion will open at 4 pm and McCain will speak at 6:45pm. The attempt to get back in the parking lot would be very difficult, so we apologize for the inconvenience. MEL, Lisa, and I will miss everybody and will see Silver Springs in two weeks on the 17th.

Anthem Hills

Today, Lisa and I went to Anthem Hills. It was nice, but a bit chilly. Our day was filled with new cards! That was exciting. A girl came aboard MEL and found the book, "Marley and Me." She was so happy, she loves dogs. If there are any other dog lovers reading this, this month we have great programs happening. The next program this month is meeting the author of "Marley and Me," John Grogan. It is held at the Henderson Pavillion on October 26th. You need tickets to get in (they are free!), so go to the Henderson Pavillion or any of your local branches to pick one up. To get more information, click here.

I was so happy and surprised to have such a nice crowd of kids and parents last Tuesday at the Black Mountain Recreation Center! I know Ms. Sue and Ms. Kathy enjoyed meeting the many new families that stopped by to check us out. It was fun for everyone!

I'm Back...

...but unless you went to Silver Springs Park yesterday, you might not have known I was gone!

Let me tell you what happened:
First, I had to go to the doctor for a checkup (Just so you don't worry, I am fine). Anyway, when the nurses were wheeling me out of the checkup place, somehow, my magic steps were bent. That's why I couldn't go to Silver Springs Park yesterday, but Ms. Lisa and Ms. Amanda took my little sister, BB the Highlander. BB was glad to get to go in my place. She said that all the people at Silver Springs are really nice, but I told her I already knew that they were!

But back to my story: I got brand new shiny magic steps! They're great! You should try 'em!

Today, at Mission Hills Park, we had lots of people: moms, dads, kids, and some new people, too. They liked my new steps, but they really like all the things they checked out.

Oh, and I got to go to another of my favorite places--the gas station! Wow! What a day!

Yea! School's Back In Session!

Do you know how glad I am to see all of the families back from summer vacation? You don't? Well, I'll tell you, I'm so happy--I would jump for joy if I could!!!

I've been washed and polished, inside and out. I'm loaded up with new books, DVDs, CDs, and even comic books!

I saw lots of old friends and met some new ones today at Mission Hills Park. The new ones were amazed that they can check out everything from us for 4 whole weeks! They were also excited to find out they can put things on hold, and the Outreach Team and I will bring them to their favorite bookmobile stop.

If you've never come to see us, please stop by--you'll be amazed, too!

Black Mountain - Tuesdays Now!

It's been a hot summer, but now that things seem to be cooling off a bit, we expect to see many more of our friends aboard the bookmobile!

So, don't forget, we'll see you every two weeks on Tuesdays at the Black Mountain Recreational Center, 599 Greenway, Henderson, NV (not Wednesday, like before!).

National Night Out - Take Two for Me!

This year's National Night Out will take place on Tuesday, August 5 at 6 PM. I will be parked and ready for you all to visit me at the Henderson Events Plaza. Come by and meet the Library Outreach Team, as well as some swell volunteers. They will be handing out information on Answers 24/7 , and you can check out all kinds of books, DVDs, and CDs while on board. You can also get free library card wallets!
